Sky and Land, Walking in the Countryside

This is another oil painting featuring the beauty of countryside, where nature is lush and you can walk under a big sky.

I liked the path leading to a distant field behind the line of trees and the open sky above with many passing clouds. The sense of peaceful movement was what I tried to recreate in this landscape.

Clouds and Dandelions

Inspired by open land and big skies, I painted this landscape painting featuring a well known field in Llanover, Wales.

I worked in the studio over some working sessions. My main focus and aim was to capture the sense of space both of the land and the sky, with the soft feeling of playful clouds.

I really enjoyed using the palette knife to soften edges and create atmosphere.

Clouds Over the Brecon Beacons

Clouds Over the Brecon Beacons is an oil painting done from the bedroom window looking towards the Brecon Beacon National Park.

I decided to paint it because of the clouds and their relationship in terms of light with the land below.

Painted alla. prima and from direct observation I aimed to avoid details and be as direct as possible.

Not far away

Not far away is an alla prima plein air oil painting inspired by the Welsh landscape near where I live.

I set out intending to reach a field I often admire from my studio window. However, it turned out to be fenced farmland, and I should have asked permission to enter. Since the surrounding area was equally full of beautiful views, I decided to stop at a spot along the cycling and walking path, where I could take in a different view—one I can only just make out from my house.

I'm always on the lookout for an intriguing landscape, and this was a perfect example. The play of various distances created a natural sipario beneath a magnificent sky.

Tuning with nature

Tuning with nature is a landscape I painted two days ago en plein air at Ystradfawr Nature Reserve, looking towards Clydach.

Using softer and more natural tones, I aimed to capture a moment in time - conveying the energy of the wind and the vibrancy of moving grass and foliage.

I loved painting it and being there, in direct connection with the elements — especially as it rained, too.

Nature is so powerful — it lifts our spirits every time we truly pay attention.

Countryside walk

I've just finished this oil painting, based on a photo reference I took in 2016.

I decided to call it Countryside Walk because that was the moment when I saw this beautiful natural composition. As often happens when I walk with my dog in nature, I’m easily drawn to the beautiful play of clouds in the sky and the shadows cast on the ground.

For me, movement, freedom, and fresh air are the essence of nature – elements I tried to capture in this painting.

Below, you can see some close-up details of the brushstrokes I used to convey this feeling:

I began this painting in January 2025, then set it aside for a while. Here is how it looked at the beginning of the process – just the main blocks of colour:
